Audience Reactions | Endgame in a double bill with Rough for Theatre II

– Brilliant, amazing, strange, hilarious, sad. – Funny and engaging. – Wonderful, baffling but constantly absorbing. – Someone who was interviewing us referred to it as ‘Morecambe and Wise in hell’
and I think that is like the ideal; it should be like this crazy double act. – I think the way that Richard has directed it as well, he’s really brought out the humour. He’s made it very accessible and quite sort of simplistic in its presentation. – I think it’s interesting, it’s quite sort of timely. I say a lot in the play
‘you’re on earth. There’s no cure for that’. – As Jane Horrocks’ character says ‘nothing is funnier than unhappiness’. So that’s kind of the theory of the play. – Oh it’s ever such fun! – The whole point of it is, it’s like constantly amusing, and salty, and difficult but you want to be there, you want to sit there and be there through it. – It’s a cruel, heartless piece of work and it’s a privilege to be in it. You don’t try and understand it; it’s just like listening to Beethoven’s late quartets. – The richness of that language and to pull out all the different colours – especially Alan who did that. But I thought Jane Horrocks was incredible, she was hilarious, and again brought such pathos and humour at the same time. It was brilliant. – Karl has this way of delivering every line like it’s a punchline, Every line, like you’re like ‘baaaaha’. – I haven’t seen Daniel do anything like that before. It’s just brilliant to see like when actors just completely, completely change. – Alan is a wonderful person to get to do that with and you know I’m watching and learning a lot like – he’s a really incredible actor. – We really get each other even though we’re incredibly different. So it’s been really great, like I really feel that he’s got my back. – I feel like I can’t describe it. You have to just go watch it.
