Community Day at Kiln Theatre (Nov 2019)

So we’re at Community Day for White Teeth There’s loads of different activities that are connected to it, so today we’ve had Building tours We’ve had workshops for children We’ve had free family screenings in the cinema We’ve had live music performances It’s been a real welcome I think for everybody that’s coming through Yeah, very good, it’s my first time here since it’s been reopened And the place looks great It’s actually my first time being here It’s beautiful, I mean…it’s vibrant culture A lot of music, a lot of food Everyone’s smiling – so, yeah, it’s really good Yes I’ve really enjoyed it, and I love how the community’s in the building It’s really nice to see it full of people It seems like quite a homely place and everyone seems to know each other here And what I really love about the day is actually seeing the community come together As someone who runs a restaurant on Kilburn High Road it’s just great that Places like this exist and that people from the community Are involved in it and engaged in it And the more the merrier! I think community for me means Bringing people from different backgrounds and different areas together Because I think – I think there’s an enrichment with that Because it’s just…everybody gets to learn from each other And everybody’s got different skills and experiences And I think that’s what’s lovely about bringing the community together I’m really looking forward to watching White Teeth and seeing what the play’s about Yeah, I’m going to see White Teeth Which I’m excited about, obviously it being a North-West London thing So, yeah – happy days! So I must say I am enjoying it so far, very much And I am happy I came to see it Having read White Teeth, it’s sort of written from a different perspective And it gives you a different angle in on everything, that’s really fun It’s been really nice to see a cross-generation of people coming through this building So we’ve had…the youngest people we’ve had through the door are sort of – probably six months And the oldest people we’re having through the door are in their nineties So it’s been really exciting getting all those people together And just celebrating this new space with them
