Generation Wealth – Official Trailer | Amazon Studios

– If I wanna work 100 hours a
week and never see my family and die at an early age
that’s my prerogative. – I would have money as big as this room. And kiss it. – 33 pounds of gold and diamonds
given to me by superstars of the world. – I love money. Come to me. – I’ve been a photographer for 25 years. With my lens focused on wealth,
I noticed that no matter how much people had, they still want more. I wanna figure out why our
obsession with wealth has grown. It seemed to be a shift
in the American dream. – I know the name’s of the
Kardashians better than I know the names of my neighbors. – This fictitious
lifestyle fuels this sense of inadequacy. – I have the classic Birkin
in almost every color. – The bags start $20,000 and go up. – I realized wealth was
much more than money. It was whatever gave us value. Fame, sex, even plastic surgery for dogs. – It’s kind of like the end of Rome. Society’s accrue their greatest
wealth at the the moment that they face death. – If you look great and
you have a nice car, I’m all for it. But at the expense of what? – [Woman] You sell your soul to the devil. – You’re so hungry for it you’re blinded. – I am on the FBI most wanted list. – All of us are following the toxic dream. – If you think that money
will buy you anything and everything, you’ve
never ever had money. – Dollars, dinero, money is what it takes.

  1. What you are witnessing is the beginning of the decline for the American empire.. Its young people are broke.. And the old don't want to build them up.. Greed rules over human decency..

  2. The title is misleading. This should speak greater depths on the worst wage gap we've ever had, which is also among the worst in the world right now. It has nothing to do with a specific generation.

  3. Started off well but ended up being a very unfocussed documentary with too many characters with uninteresting stories

  4. I would love to have money and all what not. Yet, These days I find myself knowing I gladly give it all to spend one day with a good friend. Most or many of these people, I suspect, Would too.

  5. I've worked for wealthy families and aside from their bitterness, drug and monetary addictions, shallowness, superficiality, stress, inability to pay me on time, they seemed basically happy.

  6. 2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
    For the Lord has spoken:
    “I have nourished and brought up children,
    And they have rebelled against Me;
    3 The ox knows its owner
    And the donkey its master’s crib;
    But…
    My people do not consider.”
    4 Alas, sinful nation,
    A people laden with iniquity,
    A brood of evildoers,
    Children who are corrupters!
    They have forsaken the Lord,
    They have provoked to anger
    The Holy One of Israel,
    They have turned away backward.
    5 Why should you be stricken again?
    You will revolt more and more.
    The whole head is sick,
    And the whole heart faints.
    6 From the sole of the foot even to the head,
    There is no soundness in it,
    But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores;
    They have not been closed or bound up,
    Or soothed with ointment.
    10 Hear the word of the Lord,
    You rulers of Sodom;
    Give ear to the law of our God,
    You people of Gomorrah:
    16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
    Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
    Cease to do evil,
    17 Learn to do good;
    Seek justice,
    Rebuke the oppressor;
    Defend the fatherless,
    Plead for the widow.
    18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”
    Says the Lord,
    “Though your sins are like scarlet,
    They shall be as white as snow;
    Though they are red like crimson,
    They shall be as wool.
    19 If you are willing and obedient,
    You shall eat the good of the land;
    20 But if you refuse and rebel,
    You shall be devoured by the sword”;
    For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
    21 How the faithful city has become a harlot!
    It was full of justice;
    Righteousness lodged in it,
    But now murderers.
    22 Your silver has become dross,
    Your wine mixed with water.
    23 Your princes are rebellious,
    And companions of thieves;
    Everyone loves bribes,
    And follows after rewards.
    They do not defend the fatherless,
    Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.
    24 Therefore the Lord says,
    The Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel,
    “Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries,
    And take vengeance on My enemies.
    25 I will turn My hand against you,
    And thoroughly purge away your dross,
    And take away all your alloy.
    26 I will restore your judges as at the first,
    And your counselors as at the beginning.
    Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”
    28 The destruction of transgressors and of sinners shall be together,
    And those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
    29 For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees
    Which you have desired;
    And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens
    Which you have chosen.
    30 For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades,
    And as a garden that has no water.
    31 The strong shall be as tinder,
    And the work of it as a spark;
    Both will burn together,
    And no one shall quench them.
    Isaiah 1

  7. Interesting that amazon, a company which thrives off of consumer greed and their desire to be seen as rich, would criticise the system which allows it to be successful

  8. only to know in the end of their years that all of it was worthless and life is just like a wind blown compared to knowing God Himself.

    Learn from the story of one of the richest king ever existed, king solomon.

    He was richest king in his time yet at the end of his life, came to God saying how he still feels lost, confused and worthless.

    Ever wonder why wealthy, powerful and popular people still feel depressed or even suicidal? Because only Jesus can satisfy you.

    The good thing is that Jesus takes you in regardless of your networth or even list of bad deed. You just need to repent and start living more like Christ everyday.

  9. More like generation trashy ….. this looks more like nouveau riche expectations of wealth with an unhealthy dose of status anxiety.  The people in the documentary are charactertures of what a 5 year old thinks wealth is …….

    But then again a documentary about a well-established family in Westchester who've held onto money for generations is not going to make good television 🙂

  10. No matter how much you have you’ll still feel empty. Like you have nothing at all. Being satisfied is one of the biggest things we should strive for.

  11. This movie trailer does not tell the full story. You must watch this film.
    I shed a tear when the filmmaker found out she was making the same mistakes as the rich .

  12. They say the rate of psychopathy is around 3 percent of people in the U.S.. I think it's closer to 80 percent. I want out of this country.

  13. America is a godless, spirituality dead country. I'm not a religious person. But America's obsession with wealth and it's spread to other cultures is just disgusting. The masses chase more money because the very design of the system is to keep people insecure and uncertain, therefore whatever you have doesn't seem like enough. I'd like health insurance, can't afford it. It would take well over half my years income to afford the premiums and deductible. This morally fucked up hell hole of a system just says, 'work harder, you're not good enough for health insurance.' So everyone is never good enough. The system is designed to destroy your self worth and self esteem, keeping us all insecure as we destroy the very natural world that we need to survive. I'm so fucking fed up with it. All of the suffering and wars for what? So the rich can get richer and control everyone else? Greed of our 'leaders' trickles down to the masses, and it will be our demise if we don't change the system.

  14. Life is a thing whic turns on wheels
    death is a thing which every man feels
    if life was a thing money could buy
    the rich would live and the poor would die.

  15. All this money wasted when it could be used for helping the people that could actually do something never have the money to do anything and the people they do have money spent $20,000 at the club and Grey goose at $2000 a Bottle

  16. I would line them up all at once and do a furious full power execution with a M60 Rambo machine gun
    Just drop them dead!

    Then I would take all their gold and start helping starving children, enslaved children, abused children and so on…

  17. It wasn't bad, but it was nowhere near as good as the Queen of Versailles. I saw the photo exhibition first and I don't think the film provided that much more than what you got there.

  18. It is interesting. The fall of Rome still mesmerizes us, the fear of the absolute end of an empire of a new dark age are really deeply engraved in the soul of our western societies.

  19. Every generation was greedy and obsessed with wealth. That why we have come so far. That's how capitalism works. Always more and never enough. Its a two edged sword. Its the reason why we have a higher standard of living, modern technology and medicine but it's also the root of all evil. Every small and big crime is in the end commuted bc of it. Either bc of greed for money or power or both. Now we are starting to see the vital flaws of this system as the meritocracy begins to kill people and makes them depressed

  20. I think it’s just people that were born rich that always want more money when they’re already rich. Like generally I think that middle and lower class people just kind of want enough money to live comfortably??

  21. “If you think that money will buy you everything and anything, then you’ve never had money.” As someone who grew up in a upper class family, this is so true. You just feel emptier after every purchase

  22. I would never understand why people want spend so much money. I have a good paid job and I am saving as much as I can (80% of it) to retire in my late 30s. If I stay in my career till 60yo, I could become really, really rich (last year I got 3 promotions and I can see getting a Director role in 10-15 years), but I just want spend my time as I want (backpacking, learning languages or hiking).

    Recently I won a Brand Challenge at my company, which mean I can reimburse spending a huge amount (fixed amount) of money on brand goods within 3 months. Those were my most stressful days… I would go to Prada, LV or Chanel and just think, why anyone would buy those bags… most of them are so ugly (especially Chanel and LV) and I could not imagine myself walking around with such crude item with vulgar and big logo… In the end I bought myself work suits and shoes. But the most of the money I spent on items which could be an investment and I could sell as they do not lose worth.

  23. The Reagan administration lit the fuse to this whole disgusting phenomenon. The Trump administration has accelerated us along the ultimate path to destruction. America is running on fumes when it comes to the gas tank of real values, replaced by a preposterous, phony sense of religious values masquerading as "family values" – which are covering up the hypocrisy of an overwhelming greed & desire for instantaneous wealth.

  24. This documentary has interviews with some of the shallowest people you’ll ever meet. I really can’t say that I feel sorry for any of them, including the filmmaker.

  25. The day people understand that economics is the arrangement of scarce resources and failing that shows a huge lack of real capitalism ruined by government intervention that is being covered with layers and layers of consumerism, the American dream will return.

  26. Remember, you can't take it with you when you're gone. Many of the richest people I've ever met are lonely and sad inside.

  27. I just saw this documentary in Amazon prime I liked it so much. I wanted to say to Lauren family you are great, and Noah you are so mature and support your mommy so much. God bless your family and all your future projects.

  28. Rich people and their kids are assholes? Oh my. I guess I will stop having disrespect for them and their inbred kind.

  29. This makes me happy that live on a island where I produce my own food and harvest food from the sea with my family and friends close by and whenever I feel like having fun I take my boat to the big city have my fun then go back home. Growing marijuana is legal so most of the time people just chill there's no dangerous drugs cause the island is too isolated and far out at sea. I'm not rich just lucky my ancestors settled in the right place I guess

  30. Behold the end of the world, "Go to now, ye rich men…Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers…is of you kept back by fraud…Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton" (James 5:1, 3, 5)!

  31. "Americanism: Using money you haven’t earned to buy things you don’t need to impress people you don’t like." ~ Robert Quillen 1928

  32. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭26‬ NKJV)

  33. I just want to do a large scale trading places with all the wealthy with all the developing worlds poorest. A giant dose of empathy

  34. I think I got everything I need from the trailer. Don't really want to spend an hour-and-a-half listening to those vapid twats.

  35. If Everyone looked through their things and gave away everything that they do not need, there would be enough things for Everyone to live comfortably.

  36. Such a stupid documentary. Generalizing an entire nation off of a small subset of people, and characterizing an entire generation. Not to mention painting all wealthy people the same.
