Lyric Opera Chicago Community Created Performances 2017

These shows are really about debunking myths. Moving away from stereotypes, filling out
the handful of things you think you may know about a certain community in Chicago. We really want the to walk away with the thought
that seeing so many young people being educated on these types of topics is really going to
change and benefit us for the future. Laughter. The energy is super high where we kind of
began with so many questions and our understanding of where our process was going to lead us. It feels good to see where we are now. I feel anxious, I feel excited I fell ready
also. This whole Chicago Voices experience has given
me the license to say things, I don’t think, people are saying in the black community at
all. I’m most scared that after we tell this story
most people will go back to their daily lives and won’t receive the message. The kids seem to more encouraged to put more
out there but it makes it easier if everybody is doing it together. I’m noticing that I am much less inhibited. I have never done anything like this in my
life. Community Created Performances has said your
story is important. And we want to hear about how you do this. Not only trans formative in the way that when
you listen to somebody’s story you understand it but also trans formative in the way of
empathy and connection. Once we try it suddenly there’s this spark
of confidence that happens then things start to grow. We are used to interacting with each other
in a certain way but his is a different kind of creative work that is building different
kind of connections. Somebody said to me how are going to get from
these little yellow post-its to a musical on stage at the Harris? And I was like, Right? Yeah. I don’t know. That’s what we’re here to figure out, right?
