The Life of Galileo | Introducing Festival 2020 | Chichester Festival Theatre

The Life of Galileo is written by one of the
titans of twentieth-century European drama, Bertolt Brecht.
It’s obviously about the life of the scientist Galileo who discovered that the earth was
spherical, not flat, and that it revolved around the sun. Something that he was punished
for saying at the time. And we felt it was an interesting time for us to revisit this
play, particularly when the veracity of scientific fact is being questioned in some quarters.
Not least where climate change is in question. We are delighted that Jonathan Church is returning
to Chichester to direct this new adaptation by David Edgar on our main stage. And in the
leading role we have the double Olivier Award-winning Henry Goodman.
Now Jonathan and Henry last worked together on another Brecht play, Arturo Ui, which started
life in the Minerva before transferring to the West End.
