Theatrical Dictionary: Fourth Wall

♪ NARRATOR: TDF’s Theatre Dictionary: Fourth Wall So I told mother,
“You’ll never see the will.” (all laugh) That’s what she thinks. You might be wondering why
I can talk to you right now, when I’m supposed
to be in this play. What I did is called
“breaking the fourth wall”. The fourth wall is the imaginary division
between the performers and the audience. So if this… Is a kitchen,
then this is the fourth wall. When we break the fourth wall,
it can help you feel closer to the show. We can tell you secrets. Or jokes. Or, we can do things that
other people can’t see. – (loud gobbling noises)
– I’m breaking the fourth wall. I can hear you. – And… cut! Fourth wall. (ding) ♪
