UC San Diego’s Lecture Hall Refresh

UC San Diego’s Lecture Hall Refresh

UCSD’s classroom refresh project is currently
underway. Many updates have been designed to make life
easier for instructors. Throughout campus, ACMS, ACT and FM are updating
lecture halls and classrooms with state-of-the-art technology to improve instruction and enhance
learning. In lecture halls, easy to use touch panel
controls installed at the podium will allow faculty to adjust lighting, volume, and switch
between sources with the touch of a nearby button. Installed iclicker hubs will make it easier
for instructors to poll students and evaluate their understanding of the course material. High resolution video document cameras will
replace old overhead projectors. All lecture halls will be equipped for video
and audio podcasting. New lighting will enable simultaneous student
note taking and multimedia projection. Sustainable occupancy sensors will turn off
lights in empty rooms. Faculty can also view classroom details online
so instructors know in advance what capabilities their lecture hall will have and lecture halls
will have labeled seats to promote academic integrity. Additionally, ACT is improving the wireless
network in lecture halls to provide faster, more reliable Internet service. And facilities management renovations are
enhancing overall classroom appearance by refreshing paint, floors and blinds. Renovations are scheduled to take place year
round without interrupting instruction and are coming soon to a classroom and lecture
hall near you.
